Capacity and energy optimization at Viking Malt
Reference: Viking Malt
How can energy optimizations increase the production capacity? Viegand Maagøe helped Viking Malt in Halmstad identifying potentials in the factory’s production process which can increase the production capacity and reduce the energy consumption at the same time.
How we completed the assignment
Viegand Maagøe was head of editing in the thorough process where all parts of the production process in the factory in Halmstad were analyzed. Here improvement potentials were found in multiple areas by:
- Optimizing the management of subprocesses
- Identifying irregularities in production such as hidden ‘bottlenecks’
- Analyzing production patterns through advanced data management and thus offer new management parameters
- Making feasibility studies and business cases for heat recovery by integrating heat pumps in multiple drying processes.
Viegand Maagøe has also executed a complete conceptual design and calculated the costs of establishing an entirely new har heat supply solution at the factory. Due to this, there has been set specifications for new components and made a basis for decision for the committee.
Results
Viking Malt in Halmstad has gotten much more insight when it comes to their own processes. They also have been given a clear plan as to how the production capacity can be increased while reducing the energy consumption as well. This way of energy optimization gives a great plus on the bottom line and thus a reduced impact on the environment. The heat pump project is expected to be realized in a few years.
Increased production capacity: 2-10%
Reduced energy costs: up to 35%
There has been set up 8 scenarios for the reorganisation of the current supply solution which has been worked through both technically, economically, and environmentally. The solutions have gone through compression tests by suppliers and there has been ensured a substantial investing grant at the Swedish energy authorities.
