Energy audit of 50 buildings led to energy savings

How do you save energy in schools and daycare facilities? With screening of buildings and prioritized initiatives.
Viegand Maagøe has assisted Københavns Ejendomme in minimizing the energy consumption in 50 municipal buildings.
How we solved the project
Københavns Ejendomme wanted a review of 50 municipal schools and daycare institutions. The project focused particularly on heating- and ventilation systems in order to achieve energy savings in the buildings. Viegand Maagøe was responsible for reviewing the buildings.
To ensure the best possible results, we used several sources to get information about the buildings:
- Evaluation of energy labelling reports
- Auditing of the buildings and installations
- Conversating with the operating staff (janitors etc.) and users
The dialogue provided e.g. valuable information about the management of ventilation systems and identification of unnecessary energy usage outside the buildings’ operating time.
For each building we calculated the potential energy savings for possible initiatives, estimated investment costs, and provided recommendations.
Results
Københavns Ejendomme was provided with well-researched reports which included an overview of potential energy saving activities and recommendations of how to prioritize the most cost-effective initiatives. All of this led to energy savings in the buildings.
The project was a part of the EU-supported program CIUDAD. Together with The City of Copenhagen, other municipalities, and Region Zealand, the project has created annual energy savings of approximately 27,000 MWh, equal to 7,500 tons of CO2.
