How we completed the assignment
The Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam wishes to promote industrial energy saving. Viegand Maagøe has together with the Danish Energy Agency advised national and local authorities in Vietnam on strategies and policies for energy efficiency improvement in Vietnamese industry.
The work includes socio-economic analysis of the effects of higher energy standards for businesses and authorities. In addition, we have worked closely with national and local authorities on revising laws and procedures for implementing regulations.
Viegand Maagøe has completed:
- Data collecting and verification of energy consumption in the industry
- Review of existing regulations, administrative procedures and reporting systems
- Socio-economic analysis and business cases
- Background analysis for benchmarking at sector level
- Proposal for better regulations, procedures, and systems
- Workshops with regional and national authorities
- Strengthened the regional authorities’ energy administration of companies with significant use of energy
- Development of energy planning in the provinces

Result
The improved regulation will promote investment in improved energy efficiency in energy intense businesses. This will:
- Reduce energy consumption and strengthen the competition of the businesses
- Reduce local and global air pollution from energy production
- Reduce the need to reinforce existing power distributional systems.
And thus get closer to the green transition of Vietnamese industry.
