Counseling generates energy savings in households
Reference: The Danish Energy Agency
How do you get Danes to save energy in their households? By making the tough decisions easy and get at the citizens’ eye level.
In cooperation with Transition, Viegand Maagøe has developed a campaign for the Danish Energy Agency which promotes energy savings through direct counseling at public meetings with citizens and on Facebook, mail, and phone.
How we completed the assignment
We used our core competence – communicating professional and overwhelming information in an accessible and action-oriented way. The goal is to make it easy for the citizens to begin making energy savings energy in their private households.
The campaign includes a range of activities:
- Public meetings with citizens about saving energy which are held in cooperation with the municipalities
- New pamphlets which describe the most relevant energy savings
- Impartial or free counseling about saving energy by mail and phone
- Counseling and involvement on Facebook
We have put written counseling and counseling done over the phone under the concept “Call, Write, Ask!” (Ring, Skriv, Spørg!). The various activities get developed in close cooperation between communications consultants and experts. This ensures that the dissemination of the information given to the homeowners is effective whilst remaining professional.
Results
Since 2016 we have participated in more than 100 public meetings with citizens in 48 municipalities with an average of 62 attendees per meeting.
The effort is estimated to have saved about 10 million kWh annually in the households. There is also a potential saving at an extra 20 million kWh annually if the projects planned are followed through.
An assessment through questionnaires at the public meetings with citizens shows that:
- 95% were satisfied or very satisfied
- 42% has fulfilled one or more energy optimizations 6 months after the meeting
Since the beginning we have handled more than 5000 enquiries by mail and phone with a high satisfaction rate amongst the users. In 2017 we also created a Facebook page for counseling where we answer questions and post relevant content focusing on the campaigns messages.
