Political approach to indoor climate in schools
Reference: Municipality of Hvidovre
How do you talk about indoor climate in Danish schools with a political agenda? Viegand Maagøe helps the municipality of Hvidovre with a strategic approach to indoor climate in schools.
How we completed the assignment
The municipality of Hvidovre has previously been working on creating an overview of the indoor climate in schools, however without focussing on the benefits of a more strategic approach to these initiatives.
As a part of a RealDania pilotproject, Viegand Maagøe supports the municipality in constructing a strategic indoor climate plan. The plan contains the political vision for the public schools in the municipality of Hvidovre that seeks to improve the schools’ physical surroundings.
The strategic indoor climate plan will be implemented based on a mapping of the actual conditions in the schools. The plan shows how the municipality can implement initiatives in their everyday activities.
As part of the project, Viegand Maagøe will complete the following:
- Measurements
- Data collecting and analysis hereof
- Observations by an anthropologist (in collaboration with Transition)
- Specific suggested solutions from an architect (in collaboration with Arkitema Architects)
- A complete strategy.
Furthermore, the municipality of Hvidovre is interested in a tool for incorporating indoor climate activities when planning new buildings or renovating.
We have developed a simple tool which takes parameters of indoor climate such as air quality, thermal indoor environment, and lighting into account in the planning stages.
Results
Viegand Maagøe achieved a close cooperation with the municipality of Hvidovre while managing the process regarding the development of the strategy. Data has been collected on several indoor climate parameters and workshops have been organized with the municipality and the associated anthropologist.
The strategy will be completed in fall 2019.
