LCA

Calculate climate and environmental impact with LCA

LCA – Life Cycle Assessment – provides you with an overview of a product’s environmental consequences throughout the product’s life cycle, from raw material extraction to disposal. It provides a solid data base both for strategic decisions and design choices at product level.

Among other things, LCA can help with the following:

  • Hot spot analysis
Shows which materials or processes have the greatest environmental impact. Used to concentrate your efforts on reductions with the greatest possible effect.
  • Scenario analyses
Compares 2 different products or ways of producing the same product. Used to make design choices in product development or to compare a new technology with an existing one.

Delivery: LCA report

The deliveries depend among other things on purpose and on choice of method. As a starting point, we will deliver a report that contains the following:

  • Method
Choice of method, purpose and scope of the study, considerations regarding data points, emission factors, analysis types, etc.
  • Modeling and calculation of results
Description and presentation of the given life cycle. It is structured in a model that links the data points together and enables calculation of the environmental impact.
  • Conclusion and discussion of the results
Description of how the results can be used and which uncertainties are associated with the results.

Use the LCA as documentation

The LCA report can be used as a baseline and, together with updates to the LCA, the effect of the company’s reduction initiatives can be documented. This can be included in your sustainability and ESG reporting. If you need it, the report can also be used to document whether you comply with threshold values and fulfill requirements for various certifications, brand schemes and the like.

Also support your marketing with documentation from the LCA. This avoids greenwashing and potential breaches of the Marketing Act.

The process

An LCA can be prepared in several different formats, depending on e.g. purpose and product type. We carry out the LCA modeling itself in the software SimaPro on the basis of Ecoinvent and industry-specific databases. Depending on the framework and choice of method, an LCA project according to ISO14040 and 14044 will look like the one below, and is an iterative process.
